Cork musician Martin Leahy has released his new single ‘Not In Gaza’ and its accompanying video, which includes artwork from Cork artist Niamh Leonard.
The track is released in collaboration with Cork Health Care Workers For Palestine, who march every Saturday in Cork City. The words of their chants are included on the song.
‘Not In Gaza’ was written after Leahy attended a talk given by the surgeon Nick Maynard, who had recently returned from working in Gaza, and where he offered a harrowing account of what he had witnessed there.

The song recalls the story of Hind Rajab, a six year old Palestinian girl who was killed by Israeli forces along with six of her family members and the two paramedics who were coming to her rescue. An excerpt from her last call to the PRCS is included at the end of the track.
“As the situation in Palestine worsens by the day,” Leahy comments, “the world turns away and it fades from the news. It is crucial that we raise our voices more than ever for the people who have to endure this murder and torture day after day.”
Leahy’s latest release dates back to June, where he put out a cover of Woody Guthrie’s legendary song ‘This Land Is Your Land’.
