‘From a Distance’ was originally penned by Julie Gold in 1987, recorded by the late Nanci Griffith on her 1988 album Lone Star State of Mind .
Irish singer Maura O'Connell is set to release a cover of the anti-war song 'From A Distance', featuring Declan O'Rourke and Dani Larkin.
Listeners are asked to donate proceeds from the track, out 8 December, to Doctors Without Borders.
The cover is said to have come about after O'Connell and long time friend Fiona Prine, both Irish residents in Nashville, had a conversation about the distressing images of war being broadcast on a daily basis.
They proceeded to speak about a bigger challenge: to truly believe that the possible alternative to violence is a world of peace.
The idea was born that O'Connell would record a song, ‘From a Distance’, for release in Ireland.

“My hope is that this beautiful song will bring comfort to those who feel heartbroken and hopeless witnessing the images of conflict and war in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and elsewhere," said the Ennis-born singer.
"Doctors Without Borders are a wonderful organization whose doctors and nurses work at great personal risk with no agenda other than to bring care and healing to victims of war all over the world.”
There are several wars raging in the world where Doctors Without Borders are on the ground bringing relief and care to innocent victims.

"Gaza is obviously an abomination - only a ceasefire and a negotiated agreement can begin to address the enormity of its horror. Peace is possible if there is a loud and persistent call for change," read a press release for the track.
"We hope this song is heard by all whose hearts are broken and that it provides both comfort and a soft landing place for our hearts while we grapple with the unthinkable."
‘From a Distance’ was originally penned by Julie Gold in 1987, recorded by the late Nanci Griffith on her 1988 album Lone Star State of Mind .
Griffith performed the tune on The Late Late Show in 1991 and the song subsequently spent 17 weeks on the Irish charts.
