The latest release marks a new era for the reconfigured Irish-British four-piece.
Following their critically acclaimed 2023 debut Attachment Styles, M(h)aol are back with their stellar new single ‘Pursuit.’ The release comes alongside news of an upcoming US tour, with shows in New York and Los Angeles alongside an appearance at Merge Records’ 35th anniversary festival.
The first project since reconfiguring as a four-piece composed of Constance Keane, Jamie Hyland, Zoë Greenway and Sean Nolan, ‘Pursuit’ buzzes with frenzied energy as vocalist/drummer Keane narrates her journey home as a woman on a night out.
“’Pursuit’ is about the experience of being followed home,” Keane explained. “Sadly, I think it’s something most women have experienced, and something that makes you change your behaviour on a very practical level.
“It first happened to me when I was 12, and it stayed with me for a long time. The experience of choosing your outfit based on how quickly it could help you get out of a dangerous situation is something I don’t even notice I’m doing sometimes, and that in itself scares me. What am I doing choosing shoes I know I can run fast in, rather than the ones that would go better with my outfit?
“As a whole, the song is built out of frustration that has accumulated over the past 30 years of being a woman in public.”

Expertly tackling themes of rape, sexuality and self-acceptance, the post-punk outfit has quickly become a rising force in intersectional feminism and the reclamation of power on the Irish music scene.
