Michael D. Higgins and Myles O’Reilly announce new album Migrants in Time
The pair will launch the album next month with a special show at Leisureland in Galway
Former President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins and ambient artist Myles O'Reilly are joining forces once again – with the duo set to release their second spoken-word album, Migrants In Time, on November 27, via Claddagh Records.
To celebrate the launch of the album, they have announced a live performance at Leisureland in Galway on November 27, featuring special guests. Tickets, from €50, will go on general sale on Thursday, October 15 at 10am. See Ticketmaster for more information.
The pair's debut LP, Against All Certainty, became the highest charting spoken-word album of all time in Ireland following its release last year – debuting at No.3 on the Irish Albums Chart.
After selling out their album launch show at the National Concert Hall, Michael D. Higgins and Myles O Reilly have gone on to perform at Hot Press's 'History In The Making' concert at the 3Arena, as well as Other Voices in Dingle.
Set against the backdrop of civil liberties conflicts during the '70s and '80s and beyond, Migrants In Time explores global struggles in regions like Central America, Africa, and the Middle East.
“Above all, I remember the children in each place: in the Favelas in Chile or the little boy who cleaned shoes in a society without social security in militarised Turkey," says Michael D. Higgins. "My poems were and are with humility giving them a space, opportunity, to live on as Víctor Jara put it”.
Themes of migration appear throughout the album.
“No matter how rooted and sedentary our lives, we are all simply migrants in time – curious, creative and vulnerable in an interdependent world that is always on the edge of new possibilities yet to be realised,” he notes.
'The Prophets are Weeping', the lead single from Migrants In Time, has been released today, alongside a video by Ellius Grace.
The album is available to pre-order in various formats now.
