Award-winning artist Mick Flannery has announced his eighth studio album Goodtime Charlie, due to be released in September, after sharing the title track last month.

The double platinum-selling musician has also announced news that of a special signing for North America to Oh Boy Records, the legendary label started by multiple Grammy winner, songwriter John Prine, in 1981. Flannery is the label's first international signing.

The Cork musician added his delight and disbelief at the news, recalling his 2022 cover of John Prine's 'Hello In There' at Other Voices Dingle.

“I can hardly believe that my latest album will be released on John Prine’s label," Mick adds. "I have loved John Prine’s songs for a long time now. That those who John loved and trusted have put their faith in me is something I will never forget.”

Acknowledged by many as one of Ireland’s most cherished songwriters, Flannery has also announced a string of North American tour dates today in support of the album's release this coming September.

Headline shows in New York City, Toronto, and Boston join an array of previously announced tours in Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, UK, and Ireland.

Goodtime Charlie has more collaborative songwriting on it than any previous records. “It sparks you out of your comfort zone,” Mick says, “It opens up the neural pathways, you wonder ‘how would someone else do this?’. Collaborators on the album include Valerie June, Tianna Esperanza, Anaïs Mitchell all performing alongside Mick in a trinity of stunning duets, and Ana Egge, Justin Stanley, Adam Landry, longtime collaborator Tony Buchen and Andrew House (Christy Skulls) on co-writing duties.

The anticipated project was recorded in Cork with old friend, drummer, and producer Christian Best.

The album's namesake single ‘Goodtime Charlie’ was released last month, offering a departure from the epic ballads featured on his previous record with Susan O'Neill, In The Game. It embodies an infectious melody and upbeat tempo in an effort, Flannery cites in the song, to help us ‘grumpy mother f***ers let go’.
