The Choice Prize-nominated artist gives us a taste of what's to come in 2020 with his first release, 'Baby Talk', a moving ballad featuring SON.
Currently in the running for the prestigious RTÉ Choice Music Prize ‘Album of The Year’, Mick Flannery today shares his first release of 2020: a stunning duet 'Baby Talk', which features the singer-songwriter from Co Clare, Susan O’Neill (SON). The result is a moving, he-said-she-said ballad, complete with swooping strings and an electric guitar instrumental.
“When I first read the lyrics, I felt that Mick managed to capture a theme and an essence that I have not yet fully explored within my own writing," gushed O'Neill. "This song brought me into new territory. What a pleasure to work with Mick."
Speaking about his Choice Prize-nominated album last year, Flannery admitted that his recent work, particularly collaborations, have been refreshing.
"There’s a lot of newness in my life and career at the moment – and it feels like a fresh start," he told Hot Press' Edwin McFee. "I’ve a new manager and I’m on my own with regards to record labels. I was released from my contract after my last album and this one is done off my own bat. I also have a couple of co-written songs on the album, which is a stretch for me. I wasn’t really brave enough to do that prior to now."
Mick and Susan will perform on stage together live at The Theatre Royal, Waterford next Friday, 14th February, Glór, Ennis on Saturday 15th February, and Cork Opera House on Saturday 22nd February.
