Happy Birthday to Mike D (born Michael Louis Diamond), founding member of the Beastie Boys and all round hip-hop legend.

Breaking onto the scene in  1981, with Mike D on vocals and drums, MCA on bass, John Berry on guitar and Kate Schellenbach (drums), the Beastie Boys went on to sell a staggering 50 million records worldwide, and become one of the longest lasting hip-hop acts worldwide. The group had a record seven platinum-selling albums and in 2012 were inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll hall of fame.
