Rap superstar Missy Elliott has dropped surprise EP Iconology, her first release of new material since her 2005 LP The Cookbook.
Elliott took to Twitter last night to announce the five track compilation with the following message.
At midnight tonight I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott #ICONOLOGY pic.twitter.com/rv2eVYGy1J

Iconology is produced by Timbaland. Accompanying the release is the stylish and striking music video for the EP's lead song 'Throw It Back', which features Teyana Taylor. It can be watched here.

On first listen, Hot Press can report Iconology is a pleasingly old-school hip-hop record. It sees the charismatic as ever Elliott spout sharp hypnotic rhymes over mid-tempo retro sounding melodies. That said, the swaggery tracks like 'Throw It Back' and 'Cool Off' hit harder than the smooth R&B jams of 'Why I Still Love You'.
