Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience dies at 61
There’s sad news from Portland, Oregon where the last surviving member of the original Jimi Hendrix Experience, 61-year-old Mitch Mitchell, was found dead yesterday in his hotel room.
It’s understood he died of natural causes.
The drummer’s career highlight was arguably playing Woodstock in August 1969 with Jimi and Noel Redding, the Experience’s bassist who passed away in 2003 while living in County Cork.
He’d been in the States as part of the Experience Hendrix Tour, a show put together by Jimi’s stepsister Janie Hendrix and which had found Mitchell playing with the likes of Buddy Guy, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Aerosmith’s Brad Witford.
