Mitski's last music project was 'Cop Car', her contribution to the soundtrack for 2020 horror film The Turning.
Japanese-American singer-songwriter Mitski has shared a new song, 'The End' - taken from the soundtrack to graphic novel This Is Where We Fall.
‘The End’ was composed by Mitski and narrated by Chris Miskiewicz, the co-creator/writer of the graphic novel.
The mood track has an atmospheric rock feel to it, featuring ominous spoken-word vocals from Miskiewicz. Mitski doesn’t lend her voice to the track, but you can still sense her theatrical artistry behind it through cymbal crashes, feedback screech and organ bombast.
In March, Mitski previewed the soundtrack with the country song ‘The Baddy Man’.
“It was exciting to make a soundtrack for a comic book,” she commented at the time.
“It allowed me to work outside of my usual songwriting form and try to approach it like a score, but without any of the cues that come with working alongside a moving image, which ended up being both freeing and challenging. I hope the end result helps to immerse you in the story!”

Z2 publisher Josh Frankel added:
"A project and partnership like this is the perfect marriage of a visual art form like comics, and music. Fans of Mitski’s music will not only get something new from one of their favourite artists, but a companion piece that completes the experience. Comics readers will find an original work of science fiction from top creators that is enhanced by the music that accompanies it."
Mitski has kept a low profile since the explosion of acclaim around her 2018 album Be the Cowboy, releasing music sparingly.
