Roisin Murphy has announced details of her debut solo album, Sequins, which is due through Echo in May.
Never one to be shackled by convention, the Arklow native is pre-releasing the collection as a series of three limited-edition 12" vinyl EPs starting on January 7 with Sequins 1 and then continuing at six-week intervals.
The first installment includes 'Off On It', 'Night Of The Dancing Flame', 'Through Time' and 'Ruby Blue', an ear-catching meld of distorted funk and Andrews Sisters harmonies which is all over English radio at the moment like a rash.
The project finds Murphy renewing acquaintances with techno boffin Matthew Herbert who handles production duties throughout.
"Having worked on several Moloko remixes from as early as 1996, Roisin's voice had become a familiar friend," Herbert reflects. "I had always loved the ease with which it sat in the textures of the sounds I work with. To work on her solo record struck me as the perfect place to try and mix proper musical charisma with noises not often heard on the radio."
