The event is organised by The Dublin Jazz Co-op
Dublin-based Malawian DJ Mona Lxsa will be playing an Afro jazz session with saxophonist Denis Scully on Sunday, 8 September, at the Workman's Club Vintage Room.
Coming to Ireland aged 17, Mona has played at the likes of Electric Picnic and Body & Soul, garnering a reputation for her mixes which often blend R&B, Irish musicians and afrobeat. The artist says that witnessing her mother accommodating other women who were finding their feet in Ireland by any way she could help them to assimilate greatly influenced Mona in what she does today.

"If you follow me on soundcloud, you’ll know my art through mixes is so personal and simple indication to pillars in my life," the disc jockey wrote on Instagram earlier this week. "Which is why this next event with Denis Scully for The Dublin Jazz Co-op, curated by Jamie Franklin, is truly special to me! I took my time with this one and is dedicated to O’curry, thank you for welcoming me home."

At age 13, he got accepted on another scholarship to study saxophone at the Royal Irish Academy of Music until he was 18. He then moved to the UK to study a BA (Jazz) Hons at the Leeds College of Music.
Since graduating, he has been playing and touring all over the UK and Europe, appearing on stages at Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, Fusion, Istanbul Jazz Festival (TUR) and more. He has also recorded with artists such as Nile Rodgers, Mulatu Astatke, Tony Allen, Soweto Kinch, Pat Thomas, Ego Ella May and Corto Alto.
