He rose up through the techno ranks, but the only thing that Jamie Lidell has going for him is his voice. On Multiply, he makes token nods to his experimental techno roots, but only his vocals really matter. On Multiply, Lidell, who is inspired by Marvin Gaye and Al Green, falsettos his way through a succession of post-modern arrangements. Apparently, his work makes more sense and comes into its own in the context of his live performances, but the only thing that Multiply has going for it is his stunning vocal range.
