Now in its fourth year, the classical music festival 'Music In Monkstown' returns once again to the intimate setting in County Dublin from 8-10 September.
The festival will feature the likes of Michael Mchale, the RTE Contempt Quartet, John Finucane and The Boys of the Palestrina Choir.
Supported by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and The Arts Council, Music in Monkstown features five key concerts during the three-day schedule.
It provides a diverse range of performances for those passionate about classical music. The 2017 programme consists of solo piano, string quartets and operatic favourites featuring music by Mussorgsky, Mozart, Prokofiev, Weber & Dvorak among many other composers.
The festival was founded by the National Symphony Orchestra's principal clarinetist, entrepreneurial Monkstown resident John Finucane.
He says, “We are thrilled to announce the programme for Music in Monkstown 2017. As in previous years we are bringing music of the highest international standard to our village and we hope that we have something for everyone to enjoy.”
As part of MIM 2017, debuting as a trio are the ‘Three Young Sopranos’ – Clodagh Kinsella, Dana Tanase and Eimear McCarthy Luddy, accompanied by distinguished pianist David Adams. It promises to be an elegant affair.
The impressive and acclaimed Palestrina Boys Choir from St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral will also perform in the festival for the first time on the Sunday afternoon.
The weekend starts on the Friday night with a piano recital given by Michael McHale, who was such a success with our audiences last year.
Completing this exceptional celebration of classical music are two wonderful concerts with John Finucane and the RTE Contempo Quartet.
Saturday evening invites guests to experience Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio and Prokofiev’s ‘Overture on Jewish Themes’. T
he second of these two concerts features the Weber clarinet quintet and a piano quintet by Dvorjak, with New Zealand native Lance Coburn.
In line with last year’s festival, post concert jazz events are being held in the local pub, alongside the “Classical Kids” segment for children and babies that takes place at Knox Hall.
