As the country gears up for the general election, we asked a selection of Irish musicians what way they’ll be voting on February 8.
The main issue that drastically needs to be addressed is housing. We have a homelessness epidemic in this country, and it’s not a ‘crisis’ – it’s a human rights violation that’s completely preventable, and the result of bad, nefarious policy.
Secondly, we really need to address the way asylum seekers are treated, the direct provision system is systemic racism and needs to go. Thirdly, we need a government that recognises that we’re in the middle of a climate emergency. Varadkar’s pledge to be carbon neutral by 2050 is absolutely no help whatsoever, because by that point it will be too late.
I’ll be voting against Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil – they’re two sides of the same right wing coin and they don’t care about us.
