My Father My King
Not just single of the fortnight, but a leading candidate for single of the year.
That little oft-used and abused word ‘epic’ is applied to all sorts of half-baked gibberish, but it still falls well short of encapsulating the sheer scale, ambition and brilliance of this one-off monster.
‘My Father My King’ weighs in at a mammoth twenty minutes and twelve seconds. Such a monumental length makes it ineligible for the charts but worthy of every other accolade imaginable. It’s a thrilling statement of every nuance Mogwai have mastered – from blissed out guitar intricacy to searing mayhem – all underpinned with a killer melodic riff that could power half of Scotland.
Not just single of the fortnight, but a leading candidate for single of the year.
