David Power's done a brilliant job of researching the notes on the tunes for the CD booklet, and one only wishes he'd applied the same thoroughness to displaying his clean, elegant playing in the best possible light: too often, irregular foot thumps and other minor glitches mar the overall effect.
My Love Is In America is the debut album from Waterford-born, New York-based uilleann piper David Power. He's done a brilliant job of researching the notes on the tunes for the CD booklet, and one only wishes he'd applied the same thoroughness to displaying his clean, elegant playing in the best possible light: too often, irregular foot thumps and other minor glitches mar the overall effect. Ambitiously, Power tackles the classic descriptive piece for uilleann pipes, 'The Fox Chase', and does a more than creditable job of stretching the instrument's boundaries to evoke all the sounds of a foxhunt. Another standout is the slow air 'Eanach Dhúin', played in an unusual key that makes similarly unaccustomed demands on the player.
