A collective of renowned songwriters and performers have gathered their talents under the Songwriters On Tap banner – and they are set to play three Irish shows in September.
Songwriters On Tap is coming to Ireland. The mini-musical extravaganza focuses on the songwriting gifts of a collective of musicians from Ireland, the US and the UK.
The full line-up includes Naimee Coleman, who released a couple of highly rated albums, through EMI in Ireland in the 1990s, before emigrating to the US; Cynthia Catania and Annmarie Cullen (pictured above), who are best known in Ireland as members of Saucy Monky, though both have also enjoyed solo careers and other band flirtations; Saucy Monky alumnus and current Katy Perry drummer Adam Marcello; and the England-born US-based singer-songwriter Sylvie Lewis.
To give a full run-down on the careers of the various participants would take a book – however what we can say is that all of the artists are songwriters of real talent and distinction, whose work has featured in numerous movies and TV shows, as well on solo and band albums in different guises.
Hot Press has written extensively in the past about Saucy Monky, who released a number of acclaimed albums. Saucy’s Cynthia Catania most recently contributed to Hot Press as a writer, handling duties on the sex column for a guest stint this year. There is a strong LGBTQ influence on the songwriting of both Cynthia and Annmarie Cullen, with Saucy Monky having established themselves as a favourite among the LGBTQ community in the US.
Throughout her music career, Annmarie has been a staff writer at Disney and Warner Chappell (under the stage name Annmarie Montade), and her songs have appeared in dozens of well known films and TV shows (including theme songs) such as Blue Bloods, Zoey 101 and Veronica Mars.

In addition to her two EMI albums, Naimee Coleman has written with Howard Jones, Phil Thornally of The Cure, Pam Rose, Maiah Sharpe and Aurora. In 2000, Naimee appeared as guest vocalist on the latter's UK top 5 cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World’ as well as on the single 'Sleeping Satellite'. There are tentative plans to release a new album, titled Survive, this year. Her partner Adam Marcello was a member of Saucy Monky, and – in addition to his songwriting – is currently the drummer with Katy Perry’s touring band.
Since releasing her debut album in 2005, Sylvie Lewis has shared stages with the likes of Jimmy Webb, Sondre Lerche, Ed Harcourt, Eleni Mandell and Jesse Winchester, among many others. In 2009, she joined L'Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio for a European tour of their adaptation of The Magic Flute. She has also joined forces with Sondre Lerche for the soundtrack for The Sleepwalker, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival.
The Dublin show takes place in the DC Music Club, at 20 Camden Row, in Portobello. Described as a “gem of a place” by Eleanor McEvoy and loved by musicians for its intimacy, it is regarded as a unique ‘listening’ venue, in the vein of the original folk clubs that were at the heart of the 1960s folk revival.
Further announcements may be on the way in relation to spin-off solo shows. Keep an eye on hotpress.com for news.
