The 'wonky funk' musician released the album's title track alongside her announcement.
Nao has revealed her next album will be released on September 24. And Then Life Was Beautiful will be the singer's third studio album and will feature collaborating artists such as Lianne La Havas and Serpentwithfeet.
Nao has made some moves already this year. She has released three singles for her upcoming recording including the Lianne La Havas feature track 'Woman', an Adekunle Gold collaboration with 'Antidote', and 'Messy Love'. The songstress has also starred as a featuring artist on Serpentwithfeet's album DEACON.
Last week Nao released the music video for her June single 'Messy Love', a bright, thriving track about the complexities of love. Pacing herself well, the artist's newest single and album title track, 'And Then Life Was Beautiful' dropped today. It reflects on appreciating small joys to overcome hardship.
The song's explicit reference to the pandemic with lines such as "change came like a hurricane / 2020 hit us differently" mark out how the artistic landscape has been shaped by lockdowns long-term both on a large scale, by halting live music completely, as well as on smaller, personal scales.
