Finger On The Buzzer : Naoise Roo answers some quikc-fire questions in the lead up to her album EMotionally Magnificent.
Where are you now and what are you doing?
Right now I’m down at Electric Picnic, working backstage and also getting ready to do a secret short set at the Salty Dog.
First record to send a shiver up your spine?
A tape of ‘60s hits when I was six that I bought at a fair. I think it was Del Shannon’s ‘Runaway’ and that hypnotic instrumental section.
First gig you attended?

Muse and The Hives in Dublin Castle. I fell under the crowd but it was amazing.
First gig you played?
I think technically, it was getting on a barstool in the Róisín Dubh in Galway when I was a kid and singing to a bunch of elderly men.
Most memorable gig?
Seeing Beck play in a small venue in Barcelona, supported by Jehnny Beth. I got the setlist and I treasure it.
What has been the most ‘pinch me’ moment of your career so far?
Probably having some of the guys from Guided By Voices coming to see me play in North Carolina. I was pretty starstruck. Also supporting Simple Kid who was a huge inspiration.

Most embarrassing thing you’ve done either drunk or sober?
I fell over a fence in front of Adam Clayton and John Kelly trying to find a lost phone. John Kelly said ‘oof.’ I was sadly very sober.
What shite jobs have you had in the past?
I once walked out of a job selling door-to-door Sky packages. That was pretty bad.
Last record you bought, borrowed, or blagged?
It was probably Cate Le Bon’s last record, Pompeii.
Who’d be in your dream band line-up?

Joey Waronker, Liz Fraser, Anna Calvi and Kim Deal.
Sexiest musician on the planet?
Probably Jehnny Beth, she is insanely enigmatic live.
What song would you have played at your funeral?
’Always Be My Baby’ by Mariah Carey
Naoise Roo’s album Emotionally Magnificent is out now via Schoolkid Records.
