Reportedly referred to as "our Mozart" by Nelson Mandela, pianist Abdullah Ibrahim will honour the NCH with his Trio on July, 13.
The performance will be part of the NCH Perspective Series, bringing many artists together.
87 years young, the Jazz master has risen to the status of a cultural icon in South America. Constantly evolving and working, Abdullah released his most recent album Solotude in 2020. African traditional music, Christian hymns, gospel tunes and spirituals as well as American jazz, township jive and classical music all influence his music style.
He is best known for his jazz piece 'Manneberg' (1974) , which became an anti-apartheid anthem.

Abdullah will be supported by Cleave Guyton playing the flute, piccolo and saxophone, as well as Noah Jackson playing bass and cello. He has collaborated with renowned musicians, such as Max Roach, Carlos Ward and Randy Weston.
