It's a family affair for the Finns. The father-son combo have occasionally joined one another on stage over the years, but recent events have seen their musical partnership become a more formal one.
As part of a wider string of shows around the UK and Europe in January 2019, Neil & Liam Finn have confirmed a show at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin that has been penciled in for Wednesday the 16th of that month.
The pair's first collaborative album - Lightsleeper - was released just last month to warm reviews, with many surprised it had taken them this long in the first place for them to fuse their efforts. The New Zealanders bring together a wealth of experience individually, Neil with his bands Split Enz and Crowded House (as well as being the newest member of Fleetwood Mac), and Liam with his three solo projects I'll Be Lightning, FOMO and The Nihilist, all of which achieved top ten positions in the New Zealand album chart.
Neil seems to tacitly acknowledge the inevitability that he would end up producing music with his son, saying: “After admiring each other’s works for the past thirty years and then reveling in our shows at the Shepherds Bush Empire, we felt inspired to create our own repertoire and encourage this new evolution in the family legacy.”
On this tour they'll be revisiting the cities wherein the ideas for the album first came to fruition, after they first performed joint shows together in 2015.
Adding to his father's admission that the family aspect added another visceral dimension during the composition of the album, Liam divulged:

“We starting mucking around not knowing what we were going to sound like and found ourselves cruising comfortably in a sultry lounge of cinematic soundscapes. During the process I became a father, Dad became a grandfather and we somehow unwittingly documented this generational shift in this sprawling music.”
