New Cassius album to be released today despite Philippe Zdar's death
DREEMS will be released today, June 21, despite the untimely death of one half of Cassius, Philippe Zdar.
As Hot Press reported yesterday, French producer and DJ Philippe Zdar died on June 20 after accidentally falling from a building in Paris.
Sebastien Farran, Cassius’ rep, said: "He made an accidental fall, through the window of a high floor of a Parisian building."
Zdar was known for his work as one part of the musical duo Cassius.
Zdar, born Philippe Cerboneschi, and Hubert Blanc-Francard originally produced tracks for the French rapper MC Solaar before founding Cassius in 1989.
Fusing disco and acid house, Cassius - named in homage to US boxing legend Cassius Clay - emerged as part of a new wave of French dance music in the late 90s, alongside acts like Daft Punk and Air.
Now, Cassius have announced that their final album is being released day.
In a statement, Hubert Boombass - who is the other half of Cassius - released a statement with the group's management, saying:
"The last album of Cassius « DREEMS » will be released tomorrow June 21st, the day that French people celebrate music
"Last night, the musician and producer, Philippe « Zdar » Cerboneschi, member of the group Cassius with Hubert « Boombass » Blanc Francard died accidentally in Paris
"His music family and loved ones are joined together to express their infinite pain
"Last night, the music industry has lost a genius"
