Meet ARTGIRL, an up-and-coming musician that draws from an eclectic pool of influences.
Growing up, ARTGIRL had a range of musical influences to draw from. While her parents introduced her to The Beatles and Celine Dion, she also loved pop and hip-hop – a stark contrast to her classical violin lessons. That’s probably why her sound is very hard to pigeonhole into one specific genre, though if pushed, ARTGIRL plumps for “alternative pop”.
In her impressively assured output, she consciously draws on eclectic influences to enhance her music and stand out from standard chart fare.
“I use that approach to keep myself interested and hopefully it’ll engage listeners as well,” she says. “There’s so much repetitiveness going on in the charts – it can get very predictable and boring. I try to create something new and different. I don’t want to just copy and paste other people’s work.”
Coming from a production background certainly helps. ARTGIRL reveals that she writes a lot of her music on her laptop, allowing her access to a wide variety of sounds.
“It doesn’t matter if I can play the flute or the cello or the drums,” she notes. “I can write all the parts and add them in.”

The colourful songwriting is reflected in her stage name, which has the feel of a superhero character – an element ARTGIRL wants to play with in the future. Maybe at some point, we’ll have a superhero-themed music video.
