New Irish artists on Hot Press' radar...
After taking a four-year hiatus from music, Cian Lynch is back with a fresh sounding single, which finds him handing vocal duties to Aoife O’Brien.
“I’ll be the first to say that my singing isn’t my strongest trait,” he laughs. “It’s definitely more enjoyable to step back and look at the arrangements.”
Leaving the paranoia of listening to his own voice at the door, ‘Wherever You Are’ is a major step away from his last EP. Taking influences from the likes of The National, he wanted to keep the authenticity and art in his work, with “a bit of pop and a bit of dance”.
A renaissance man, Cian also dabbles in surfing and photography in his spare time.

“I might not catch a wave but instead sit there for a couple of hours working through things,” he says of the former’s therapeutic qualities. His photography skills have helped his eye for aesthetics, and the concept art for albums and music videos inspires him just as much as the music making process. It all suggests somebody with seriously exciting potential.
