Drogheda four-piece Modernlove. have crammed a lot into their short time as a group. Since coming together in 2016, they’ve built up considerable momentum and landed support slots with the likes of The Academic and Hudson Taylor.
“We got thrown in at the deep end a little bit,” reflects frontman Barry of those shows . “That was probably good, because it meant that when we got a great reception at our own gigs, we didn’t lose the head too much. We’d played even bigger shows before, so that kept us level-headed.” Successfully building on those foundations in recent months, the band played both the Trailer Park and Salty Dog stages at Electric Picnic. For good measure, they were also rewarded with a headlining slot on the Firestone Music Station stage at Vantastival, after winning a Battle of the Bands competition.
“It was a toss-up between a few bands that had been picked to play the Firestone stage,” explains Barry. “There was a vote for five bands to play in a live final. We played and managed to win, so we ended up headlining. There was a lot of hype and the crowd was huge.”
Meanwhile, Modernlove. have recorded a four-track EP called Dislocate, which is set to drop later this year. It will feature their debut single ‘Up’, which has performed well since its release, amassing over 13,000 streams on Spotify. The band will also shortly release second single ‘Islands’, followed by their first mini-tour of Ireland. Keep your eyes peeled.
