Outsider Yp on his single 'STAMPEDE' and why 2019 is a big year for him.
2019 is a big year for Outsider Yp. The 23-year-old Cork-based rapper has multiple collaborative mixtapes either in the works or ready to be dropped, in addition to which he’s shooting music videos and has his own solo album ready to go later this year. He’s also involved in organising music events, including the Outsiders festival in Cork.
“This year I really want to go up a level,” he says. “I really want to get that clout and get the numbers up. I really want to push it… I want to be the hardest working artist on the planet right now!”
The rapper’s single, ‘STAMPEDE’, is part of his upcoming mixtape with Jay Ronic, TrashLyfe ULTRA. It showcases his ability to embrace different sounds and moods; his influences range from Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco to animes like Naruto. On ‘STAMPEDE’, Outsider Yp and Jay Ronic lean into an aggressive punk vibe, with Linkin Park and XXXTentacion also among the inspirations.
“Me and Jay were chilling and made a bunch of songs,” reflects Yp. “We were, like, bro, we need to make something that’s just crazy. ‘STAMPEDE’ was the one that just had that raw energy.”
