Somebody’s Child (Cian Goddo) has burst onto the Irish scene with his sensational track, ‘Make You Alright’. Initially, the song was heavily modelled after one of Goddo’s favourite acts, before taking a very different turn.
“I was attempting to write songs in a number of different styles and Tame Impala was a band I was listening to a lot,” he explains. “Shortly after I started writing, however, my attempt to follow in their footsteps went out the window, and the song became its own thing.”
Goddo recalls how neither of his parents had any interest in music. The only times he would hear music growing up was during long drives across the French countryside.
“The albums we had were limited to were Bob Marley’s Legend, U2’s War and Tom Waits’ Closing Time,” he reflects. “Then there was Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms, and some Leonard Cohen as well. Not a bad selection, but five albums over five years could make anyone feel a little deprived.”

Despite being classically trained in piano, Goddo soon grew tired and wanted to broaden his creative horizons.
“It wasn’t exactly the type of thing a person of that age is generally interested in,” he notes. “Around that time, I started playing about with chords on the piano and writing simple melodies. I guess that’s where I found my love for writing songs.”
‘Make You Alright’ signifies the start of a new chapter in the multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter’s career. He will most definitely be one to keep an eye on.
‘Make You Alright’ is released on all digital platforms on September 13.
