New to Hot Press: True Tides
The band of brothers are producing radio-friendly indie-pop
Corkonian brothers Cian, Conor and Eoghan MacSweeny have had a busy year since first performing as True Tides back in January. Having received admiring notices for debut single ‘Higher,’ their follow-up track ‘Automatic’ is already an Irish radio favourite.
Produced by the band in collaboration with Diffusion Lab, ‘Automatic’ is a catchy pop number that suits its summer release. “We worked on it a lot ourselves and brought it to as high a level as we could,” says Cian, who writes a lot of the band's material. “We were introduced to Chris from Diffusion Lab and we just hit it off. He elevated it to another level. It was very collaborative.”
The band’s indie-pop set up consists of vocals, guitar, bass, drums and electronics. They produce catchy, feel-good music with just enough lyrical substance to provide a bit of grit.
“For us it's about connecting, giving people a good time...you can feel that in ‘Automatic’ and even ‘Higher,’” says Cian. “We want to give people a good buzz. There's so much dark shit in the world at the moment!”
The success of the band’s first two singles no doubt cushioned their performance on the main stage at Castlepalooza, the biggest stage they’ve played so far. They’re due to play their first headline show in Soundhouse, Dublin on 15 September.
True Tides are set to release their debut album in 2019.
