Beauty Sleep, a dreamy indie-pop band from Belfast, first formed after meeting by chance at a house party in Belfast. “Me and Cheylene have known each other for years,” explains singer Ryan McGroarty, “and have always sort of made music, but we wanted to do it like a new project. Then when we went out to a friend’s house for a party and we just sort of found Aimee. We thought she was incredible, and when we went home, we stalked all of her Spotify playlists to make sure she was as cool as she seemed!”
With a unique sound different to many of their peers, Ryan says that Beauty Sleep are often inspired by studio experimentation. “I work in a studio,” he notes, “so a lot of it’s just us messing around with old synths and boxes and things. It kind of comes out organically that way.”
The group have found success with their track ‘All In’, which was released back in March, and are now focusing on the release of a debut album, with an EP to be released before the end of the year. “Our idea was just to put something out over the summer,” says McGroarty, “and we’re beginning an album now. We have some stuff out at the minute that’s still fresh to people, but we’re also working away at new material, so it’s good.”
Beauty Sleep are also gearing up for a series of festival appearances this summer, with Castlepalooza the event Ryan is looking forward to most. “Everyone seems to have a wild story about their time at Castlepalooza,” he chuckles, “so that’s encouraging. It’s very special, so I’m excited to get there and meet some new people.”
