Limerick’s Rory Hall is part of the new generation of artists who find themselves playing the roles of muscician, producer, DJ and songwriter, all under the name Proper Micro NV. It’s been nearly a year since he released his first EP, aptly titled EP1.
“I plainly called it that ’cause I wanted to get across that this was my first endeavour. There wasn’t a planned EP in my head for quite a while, really, but when I wrote ‘Revive’ and ‘Erase’, in my mind they went together. I couldn’t separate them, so I decided to put them together on this EP.”
EP1 is almost a year old, and since then Proper Micro NV has released another EP, It’s Always Raining.
“I suppose the main difference between the two is that the first one was mostly focused on my voice, and there was more production in this one. They’re both very down-tempo, but I feel as though the second one has a bit more of a kick to it. It was really an evolving process.”
Hall’s music has caught the ear of more than a few electro-pop fans, including former Moloko singer Róisín Murphy, who gave him a shoutout on social media.

“Oh my God, I was freaking out,” he gushes. “I’ve been a massive fan of hers since I was ten. You know that Moloko song ‘Time is Now’? That was featured in an old Sky Sports ad. When I was watching football, that was always playing, and I was like, ‘What is that song?’ Then when I got my musical ear, I realised it was her. It was amazing to get that acknowledgement from Róisín.” See: Keep track of Proper Micro NV’s gigs via his Facebook
