The Dublin-based band who give it their all.
Going out, going home, headphones or speakers: Pursued By Dogs provide music for each and every moment. With Shannon Purcell on keys, Andrew Brennan on guitar and Dave Sheehan on bass – plus production courtesy of Ronan Marr – they specialise in melodic tunes with powerful choruses.
Formally known as Dogs, the addition of Purcell in early 2016 was the basis for a new name and vision.
“I was sent a demo of what is actually our latest release ‘Talk’,” she recalls. “It was written many moons ago, and I added a verse and chorus. To my surprise, they then featured me on it – it all started from there. Talk’ soon became a live favourite, giving the band a real sense of momentum.
They were absolutely ready to push on from ‘hobby’ status when I joined,” reflects Shannon “We all had a sense of how much time would be involved to take us to professional levels. We wanted people to feel the same buzz we did.”
Even as Pursued By Dogs take important steps, they still cope with pangs of self-doubt.
“You could have a brilliant gig one night and everything seems worth it,” notes Purcell. “But the next day, there’s a voice going, ‘Not good enough!’ It’s difficult to shake sometimes – will I get out my violin?”

Purcell also less-than-fondly remembers when the band went to record their first album during winter. However, her tone brightens when we mention the finished album.
“We’re so proud of it,” she beams, “and we can’t wait for it to be heard.”
Pursued By Dogs’ self-titled debut album is released on April 27. They play the Button Factory, Dublin on May 4.
