Rebekah Fitch has become something of a Northern Irish pop phenomenon over the past year, with her hook-heavy electronic music receiving airtime on radio stations from Philadelphia to India. A Belfast native, Fitch first came to prominence in 2015 with a slew of indie-pop tracks, such as ‘Stroke Of Genius’ and ‘Afraid Of The Light’.
However, her latest single ‘Not Myself’ finds her delving into darker subject matter, with the song tackling the issue of mental health.
“Nothing is hidden here,” says the singer. “It’s a window into my state of mind during a confusing and disorienting period, which became normal and even comfortable. I started to value these dark places for the sake of my art. It made me feel different or special, and it can be hard to let it go for that reason.”

Inspired by musicians such as Lana del Rey and Florence And The Machine, Fitch uses her Christian background to fuel her frank lyrical style. “I want to encourage people to think about religion,” she says. “Not in a preachy way, but to remind them how massive a question it is. It is literally a life or death matter. Lyrically it does not need to be explicit, but it’s certainly present as a subtext all of the time.” “I’m sick of clichéd radio lyrics – you don’t have to sacrifice pop melodies for substance. My passion is to bring up issues people don’t think about it, or are too afraid to consider.”
‘Not Myself’ is released on October 27.
