Belfast indie-group Bad Fit have one hell of an origin story – some of their first gigs were played as an It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia tribute band.
“My friends and I, we love Always Sunny, and we wanted to put on a theme night here in Belfast,” says frontwoman Grace. “Initially we were just gonna screen episodes, but Bad Fit, we were practising at the time, and we all knew the songs, so I was like, would you guys wanna cover these?
“We were all up for it – we all knew the songs and loved playing them. So basically it became the real crux of the night, and we sold out the show in six minutes. It went so well we said we should do it again. There was so much demand for the second show it actually crashed our website.
“That all happened before we even released our first single, so playing those songs kind of brought us together.”
Moving on from their humble origins as Chemical Toilet, the Always Sunny tribute band, they’ve developed their own sound, a garage indie aesthetic with Grace’s vocals giving each track an ethereal vibe.
“We’ve been compared to Best Coast a lot, which we love to hear,” says the singer proudly. “We’ve got some great feedback from our singles so far, so our plan at the moment is to release an EP in the spring.
“We’ll be announcing more gigs once we have that out, cause we really want to get those songs in front of audiences as well. “
