Three years ago, David Anthony McGeown quit all the bands he was in and began a brooding alt-rock solo project called Bodies.
“I just got sick of all the egos,” says McGeown, “and all of the compromising and fighting that happens between band members.”
During his time in the studio, McGeown invited about 20 different Irish musicians to help him record. His upcoming album features contributions from members of Lethal Dialect, Kid Karate, Overhead the Albatross and BLOOMS.
So far the singer has released two singles, ‘Nightmoves’ and later ‘I’m Waiting’. Notably, the ‘Nightmoves’ video stars Game Of Thrones and Vikings actor Eddie Jackson.
BODIES also released a video for ‘I’m Waiting’ this month, which further showcases McGeown’s dark humour. Both videos end with blood pouring from someone’s neck.
“I didn’t want the shift to be from the first one, which was quite dark, to the second one which was kind of goofy,” says McGeown. “So I was like, ‘Ah, throw in some decapitation.’ Everybody loves a good decapitation I think.”
McGeown plans to drop an EP in September. The singer adds that he’s made enough music for a full album, which he expects to release sometime in early 2018. He is also scheduled for more recording in the autumn.
“Once I kind of figured out what I wanted to write, what music I wanted to make, I’m just doing as much as I can.”
