Brave Giant released their first EP last year, a collection boasting tracks such as ‘Four’ – which could be the Bastille hit Dan Smith never got a chance to write – and road-trip love song, ‘Lordy Lordy’. Since then, the lads have been back in the studio, pulling together some new material that they’re planning to unveil at their upcoming sold-out Whelan’s gig.
“This new stuff is slightly more mature,” comments frontman Mark Prunty. “It does a better job of representing us than our earlier songs. Last year, we started out upstairs in Whelan’s and now we’re playing the main venue with this new music, so it’s kind of come full circle. We’re really looking forward to it, we just want to put on a big show. It’s been a big year for us, we played Electric Picnic, and now we’re coming back to Whelan’s. These are landmark places in our music history, and to be able to play them with such great support behind us is absolutely amazing.”
This year, Brave Giant have dropped a new single, ‘The Time I Met The Devil’, which – in another notable moment – they performed on The Late Late Show.
“It was incredible, absolutely brilliant,” says Prunty of the experience. “We only found out the week before, which was a good thing, ’cause we didn’t get to think about it for too long. So we went up a bit nervous, but it went okay. Afterwards, though, I could barely speak two words, I’m not joking. The lads were like, ‘Are you alright?’ I just couldn’t speak, I was so shell-shocked after the whole thing. You don’t really think about it while you’re up there, it’s only after that you go, ‘Well, Jesus, that was a pretty big thing we just did.’”
