British composer and musician Anni Hogan released a new single today, ‘Angels of Romance’, featuring Gavin Friday from Irish post-punk outfit The Virgin Prunes.
Anni Hogan's new single ‘Angels of Romance’ comes in anticipation of her forthcoming album Lost in Blue, to be released April 5th. With a training in classical music, Anni Hogan has brought a singular dark and haunting perspective to her wide-ranging body of work, collaborating with legends of underground and experimental music, including Nick Cave and Wolfgang Flür. Probably her most well-known musical projects are her collaborations with Soft Cell’s Marc Almond under the monikers Marc & The Mambas, The Willing Sinners and La Magia. Many of their records together have gone on to become cult favourites.
‘Angels of Romance’ was produced by Dave Ball (Soft Cell) and Riccardo Mulhall, and features vocals from Gavin Friday, former frontman of Irish post-punk group the Virgin Prunes. Friday’s work also includes a number of acclaimed solo albums, soundtrack work and even art direction for U2’s 2015 tour. Accompanying the track, a meditative and dreamlike music video, directed by Gerry McNee, is set to be released soon.
Anni Hogan’s upcoming album Lost in Blue is a poignant collection of songs, with elements of orchestral delight, dark cabaret and beautifully crafted modern vaudeville. It features collaborations with no wave icon Lydia Lunch, Kid Congo Powers of Gun Club and the Bad Seeds, Richard Strange of Doctors of Madness, and former Kraftwerk percussionist Wolfgang Flür. Lost in Blue is set for release on April 5 from Cold Spring Records. It is currently available for pre-order here.
