Bono was among the stars and prominent politicians paying tribute to Senator Ted Kennedy on Wednesday in Boston's Symphony Hall.
One of the fringe events at this year's Democratic Party Convention, the guest-list also included Ben Affleck, Glen Close and Hilary Clinton.
"I'm here because I wanted to say thank you to Teddy Kennedy on behalf of my people, on behalf of his people," said the U2 man before launching into a Boston Pops orchestra-assisted version of 'Pride'.
According to one eyewitness, "Bono changed several key lyrics to personalise them for Kennedy, most notably the refrain about Martin Luther King Jr., instead making references to John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr."
Bono finished his brief set with the Gangs Of New York scoring 'The Hands That Built America'.

Meanwhile, the professional looking Vertigo album cover that's made its way on to the 'net has been confirmed as a hoax.
"A lot of work appears to have gone into it," says a U2 source, "but it doesn't have anything to do with the band or the people who do their artwork, Four 5 One. The fact of the matter is that neither the title nor the cover has been decided on yet."
