Friday night saw Niamh Kavanagh being chosen to represent Ireland at the 55th Eurovision Song Contest, which is taking place in Oslo in May.
Kavanagh, who previously won the competition in 1993 when it was held in Millstreet, was singing the Niall Mooney, Lina Eriksson, Jonas Gladnikoff and Marten Eriksson song ‘It’s For You’.
“It’s an honour to once again represent Ireland in the Eurovision,” she enthuses. “Winning in Millstreet was such an overwhelming positive experience and I’d like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who voted for the song tonight. I’d also like to thank the songwriters for writing such an amazing, powerful song that I am really looking forward to performing in Oslo”.
A delighted Niall Mooney added: “After last year it’s obvious Ireland are going to need something really special to get a high position in the contest. Jonas and I literally spent months writing but nothing was really good enough. Then Lina and Marten joined the collaboration and the whole thing clicked.”

Kavanagh will compete in the second semi-final on Thursday May 27, with the Final, if she makes it through, happening on the Saturday.
