Dua Lipa and Anne-Marie lead the shortlist with four nominations each.
The nominees for the Brit Awards 2019 were revealed on ITV's The BRITs Are Coming on Saturday. The one-hour nominations show, hosted by BBC Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo, revealed the full list of nominees.
Anne-Marie and Dua Lipa topped the list of nominations, both receiving four nods across multiple categories. Dua Lipa was also the most nominated artist at last year's Brit Awards, winning the awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.
British punk rock band Idles, who won Hot Press' Album of the Year for 2018 with Joy as an Act of Resistance, were nominated for British Breakthrough Act, alongside big names like Jorja Smith, Mabel, Tom Walker, and Ella Mai. Idles responded to the news on Twitter, calling the announcement "fucking batshit mental."
The shortlist for British Album of the Year, which went to Stormzy's Gang Signs & Prayer in 2018, is particularly competitive this year. Critically acclaimed albums from Florence + The Machine, George Ezra, Jorja Smith, The 1975 and Anne-Marie have all received nominations for what is generally considered the biggest award of the night. Coldplay and the Arctic Monkeys have both received the award three times in the past.
The nominations for British Female Solo Artist include Anne-Marie, Florence + The Machine, Jess Glynne, Jorja Smith, and Lily Allen. Aphex Twin, Craig David, George Ezra, Giggs, and Sam Smith all received nods in the British Male Solo Artist category.
