This morning’s ‘big’ Oasis announcement wasn’t them reforming – a rather convincing spoof tour schedule had suggested an August visit to Slane – but conformation that a 20th anniversary Definitely Maybe remaster will be with us on May 16.
The various formats include a standard CD and digital download of the original 11 tracks; a Special Edition 3-CD set including such bonus goodies as live Paris record store acoustic versions of ‘Live Forever’ and ‘Shakermaker’, a Tokyo hotel room take on ‘Half The World Away’ and a previously unheard live in Manchester ‘Sad Song’; and a Super Deluxe Box-Set, which will retail for around €120 and include three CDs, two heavyweight 180g vinyl LPs, a 58-page hardback book, a 12” x 12” print, tote bag, enamel key-ring, badge set, five postcards, a live ‘Supersonic’/'Cigarettes & Alcohol’ 7”, magnetic closing lid and sleeve notes supplied by former Hot Presser Neil McCormick.
Also up for grabs on their website is a replica of the original cassette demo the band sent to record company personages and sold at gigs before they were signed. Some of the tunes ended up on Definitely Maybe while others like ‘D’Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman?’ and ‘Cloudburst’ were kept for B-Sides and ‘Strange Thing’ is only now receiving a commercial release.
While you can never say ‘never’ where the Gallaghers are concerned, it’ll take one hell of a thaw in brotherly relations for Noel and Liam to share a stage again – especially given the legal action the latter initiated against his big bro in 2011.
The rancour was clear when Hot Press met Liam in London shortly beforehand to talk new Beady Eye beginnings.
“You can’t have four geezers in a room fucking speaking to each other and getting things sorted? I tell you what’s ridiculous – some cunt who thinks he knows fucking everything!” he proffered none too cryptically. “How many cunts were there in Oasis? Here’s a clue – it was more than zero and less than two. I’m not scared of Noel Gallagher or his fans! Put that in your piece!”
