The track is accompanied by a day-in-the-life style music video shot in Dublin's city centre.
Odd Morris have released a new single, titled 'Cold Water.' It's now the third single officially released by the Swords quartet.
The song has a heavy bassline accompanied by a twinkling guitar riff, teetering on the edges of emo and post punk. There's a distinct dark and introspective quality to it -- you can hear the emotion before even paying attention to the word. It shifts toward the end, the main riff stays the same as the other instruments build a warmer tone that radiates a new sense of hope.
The lyrics explore frontman Daragh's perspective on romance, divided into two parts. The first half is about his exhaustion with it. As the track progresses, he has a change of heart, singing later about the unpredictability and beauty of romance. He writes:
"Whilst fear and uncertainty exist when relinquishing that part of yourself, there’s also a gaining of trust from the other person. I just tried to explain what that felt like, and to me it was a shock to the system, like how people suddenly gasp in shock when they hit cold water. With this being the sentiment, I wanted to include a stanza of a poem I’d written about this person and it just happened to fit perfectly in that verse. It’s such a rewarding aspect of writing lyrics, when your scraps of poetry seamlessly slot into place with a new unfinished song. It’s strange, almost as if the song was always going to be written."
'Cold Water' was released with a music video, which follows the main character through an average day while something's nagging at the back of his mind. Filmed in Dublin's city centre, it's a nostalgic journey through the city for the members, including old familiar bus routes.
