18-year old High School Musical: The Series star Olivia Rodrigo has released her debut album today.
Olivia Rodrigo has finally shared her much-anticipated debut album, SOUR, today - and her fans have reached feverish levels of excitement.
The Disney Channel breakout star promised fans an album that moves away from the sound of her hit single 'drivers' licence,' and she didn't disappoint in that sphere. The accompanying music video for SOUR's title track uses the imagination from hit cult classic Jennifer's Body, with pitch perfect visual results.
The US pop singer has shattered chart records since her debut such as Spotify's record for the most streams in one day. The track hit the 100m streams mark faster than any other track on the platform had before. It debuted at No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for eight weeks – only the seventh song ever to do so. In the UK, it topped the charts for nine weeks and broke the record for the highest single-day streams ever for a non-Christmas song.
With the help of producer Dan Nigro, Rodrigo has delivered an album that pairs pop-punk attitude with the noticeable influence of Billie Eilish.
Not only that, but Taylor Swift and prolific producer Jack Antonoff, who is responsible for Swift's 1989 and Reputation also hold album credits on SOUR's fourth track '1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back,' which uses an interpolation from Swift's 'New Year's Day'. The title itself holds a subtle nod to Swift, with 13 being her lucky number.

The singer recently performed the album's lead singles 'drivers licence,' 'deja-vu,' and 'good 4 u,' on Saturday Night Live ahead of the album's release. Bringing jealousy, anger and bewilderment and moulding the emotions into pop euphoria, Rodrigo's offering is both cathartic and nostalgic in equal, dazzling amounts.
