The original band formed back in 2010 when Mikey Goldsworthy moved to London from Australia. Olly Alexander later joined as a vocalist, before the act signed to Kitsuné Records as a trio in 2013 and Polydor Records in 2014.
UK synth-pop band Years & Years have confirmed that frontman Olly Alexander will release new music as a solo project in the spring.
The London group's bandleader recently won widespread praise for his role in Russell T Davies’ TV drama It's a Sin on Channel 4, but is now focusing on his recording career for the remainder of 2021.
The band’s last album came in 2018’s Palo Santo, following 2015's critically and commercially acclaimed debut LP Communion - which spawned hit singles 'Desire', 'King', 'Sanctify' and 'Shine'.
In January 2015, the band won BBC's Sound of 2015 poll ahead of releasing the band's sixth single, 'King'. The track was selected as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record in the World and later topped the charts worldwide.

Recent popular tracks from the trio include 'All For You', 'Valentino' and 'If You're Over Me'.
Mikey Goldsworthy will remain as part of the Years & Years project as a musician for their live sets, while Emre Türkmen will focus on writing and producing.
"Dear Y&Y fans, there’s been some changes that we want to fill you in on," an Instagram post from Years & Years this afternoon reads.
"This upcoming new album has been an Olly endeavour and we’ve decided that Years & Years will continue as an Olly solo project. The three of us are still good friends. Mikey will be part of the Y&Y family and play with us live and Emre will focus on being a writer/producer."
"These past twelve months have been crazy for us all and we want to thank you for the love and support you’ve given us over the years (& years)," the statement adds.
"New Y&Y music will be coming this spring."
