The single 'Bauhaus Staircase' is a celebration of mid-20th century protest art and the Bauhaus era.
The English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, or OMD, has released a lead single ahead of the release of their newly announced upcoming album Bauhaus Staircase. The record, the band's fourteenth LP, is due to release on 27th October 2023, and is what the band calls their "most explicitly political record."
The new track, also titled 'Bauhaus Staircase', was released with an accompanying animated video, an homage to the power of protest art and the Bauhaus era.

OMD member Andy McCluskey spoke about the single. "I am a huge lover of visual arts, especially mid-20th century movements. I reference them often in my titles and lyrics. The song 'Bauhaus Staircase' is a metaphor for strength and artist passion in the face of criticism and adversity. The title is derived from an Oscar Schlemmer painting. He taught at Bauhaus, and created the amazing futuristic costumes for The Triadic Ballet (referenced in the song)."

It's been just over forty years since OMD first blasted onto Liverpool's electronic scene, and their long and prolific career cemented them at the forefront of the dark wave movement and beyond. This June they opened for Soft Cell at St Anne's Park in Dublin, and this November are set to play the California festival Darker Wave alongside dark wave icons New Order, Tears for Fears, The B-52s and more.
