Kayleigh noble on her stellar debut LP, Just A Girl.
How does it feel to be releasing your debut album?
It feels like I sometimes have imposter syndrome - it feels crazy. The creation of that album kind of felt like a therapy session to me. It was the way I got over something and got past it, and for it to be finished and released feels so wild. It’s kind of like an out-of-body experience.
What can we expect from the record?
A rollercoaster of emotions. The album was made by me, Jessica (whenthebeatisbad) and Molly (prodbymolly). The start of the album is the realisation that there were things going on in a relationship that weren’t working. Then there was the process of realising those things, and subsequently getting through and over the relationship. There was also the turning point of realising, ‘I’m actually okay now’, and getting back to who I am. There are some fun, poppy songs and then there are some deeply personal songs.
How has your music changed since the release of your debut single in 2018?

I feel like my songwriting has become more personal. I write about a lot more experiences now, rather than fictionalising or romanticising things. Working with Jessica has really helped me find my own sound, production-wise. I have my own ‘Kayleigh Noble’ synth-y sound. We’ve really created that together.’
Female energy and womanhood seem to be themes in your new music - where did you get the inspiration for that?
Probably from getting through what I got through. I was in a really bad relationship and all the women around me got me out of that. From my aunties to my mum, to my friends who were like, ‘You’re not yourself, you can do this and you can leave that situation.’ They stayed by my side during it and after I left. They built me up to be the woman I am now. That’s one of the main reasons the album is made exclusively by women, from artwork to production, everything. It felt like such a safe space.
