Ahead of their debut EP BloodRush, Dublin alt-rock trio The Fae talk healing through music and forging their musical identity.
What was it like making your single ‘Chloe’?
Chloe: It was a very healing experience, because it’s about me and things that I went through. While recording it, I thought it was going to be tough to get through, but I actually enjoyed it. We were still relatively new at the time, so it was such a bonding experience for the three of us. I knew Emma and Jordan really well, but when you’re stuck in a studio for two or three days, you really learn about a person.
What are you excited for in regards to BloodRush?
Jordan: Everything. We have our songs picked and demoed, with a lot of the basic tracking going on. In the very primordial stages of putting together the band, these are the songs played. The EP is really to put us on the map and establish an identity. We’re hoping to do a vinyl release - it would be amazing to have a physical representation of our work in hand.
Which acts are you most influenced by?
Jordan: The things we enjoy musically are quite different. For the EP, I really got into ‘70s power-pop and a lot of the bands on Dirty Hit. Of course, whenever you try to make something that sounds like something else, you’ll end up incorporating your own stuff. So much of you ends up in it, that by the end, it sounds different to the thing you’re trying to replicate.
Emma: It’s really cool how all of our different tastes blend together to create our own identity. It’s interesting, because you can listen to one song and there are elements of shoegaze and My Bloody Valentine, and then you hear the vocals and it’s a lot more Chloe’s side of things. I think our inspirations individually come from different places, but it all comes together to create The Fae.
