On February 18, 1973, Rory Gallagher released his third studio album, Blueprint – featuring the debut of his classic four-piece line-up, with Lou Martin on keys, Gerry McAvoy on bass, and Rod de'Ath on drums. To mark the occasion, we're revisiting Johnny Marr's reflections on this iconic period in the Irish guitar legend's career...
Johnny Marr:
"If you listen to ‘Daughter Of The Everglades’ [from Rory Gallagher’s 1973 album Blueprint] you can really hear his influence on me in that.
"People think of Rory as being a blues-rock musician, but there’s many reductive things about that which are obviously unfair. People think it’s all about solos, well far from it, because on Rory’s albums, particularly the early ones, there’s twelve strings and folky stuff, his great arrangements, and his chord-work.
