Born Optimistic has today announced an orchestral celebration to mark what would have been Mic Christopher’s 50th birthday, taking place at the National Concert Hall, Dublin this November.
Mic Christopher passed away in 2001, at just 32 years of age.
Saturday’s sold-out Whelan’s gig was the first of four special happenings, hosted by Born Optimistic, celebrating the life and music of Mic.
Mic is best known for his posthumous multi-platinum hit album Skylarkin and it’s massive lead single and opening track ‘Heyday’. He also recorded two hugely acclaimed albums Bored Of Their Laughing and Sham with his band The Mary Janes.
In the years since Mic’s passing, his songs have grown in stature as a whole new generation have come to love his songs.
This very special concert at the National Concert Hall features a Chamber Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Rice, plus an array of very special guests to be announced.

Earlier in the summer, we sat down to talk to Niall Carver, whose masterful documentary Heyday: The Story of Mic Christopher, paid tribute to this figure in Irish music. You can read our full interview with him here.
All of the proceeds from the concert will be going to fund Aidlink’s work in the Turkana region of Northern Kenya, which has been ravaged by Climate Change. The average life expectancy there is just 47 years of age. Aidlink funds local community groups who carry out vital work to improve the lives of the Turkana.
