Benjamin Cleary's short film Stutterer has been making waves internationally at film festivals. Now Irish audiences can see why this Friday evening on RTÉ.
Stutterer written and directed by Dubliner Benjamin Cleary is nominated for an upcoming Academy Award for Short FIlm (Live Action). It will get it's first Irish television screening on Friday the 27th at 12:55am.
Stutterer follows a typographer (Greenwood) who is prisoner to a speech impediment. His eloquent thoughts are rendered null and void as his ability to express himself through speech is suppressed by his stutter. A recluse in reality, he forms an online relationship with a woman who is unaware of this and wants to meet with him face-to-face, forcing Greenwood to face his greatest struggle.
Stutterer is from the imagination of Cleary, produced by Serena Armitage and distributed by Bare Golly Films. The nomination for an Academy Award is the cherry on top for Cleary's short film as Stutterer has already won 9 awards including Best Foreign Film at the LA awards and Best Short Film at both the London Critics Circle Awards and at the Kerry Film Festival. The film has been selected to play at numerous film festivals and it's continued success is celebrated by RTÉ giving Irish audiences it's first viewing. It's a huge accomplishment for all those behind Stutterer as it was whittled down from 144 films to make the cut in it's nomination for this years Academy Awards. Whether or not Cleary will be the proud owner of a golden gong remains to be seen as the Oscars will air on Sunday 28th.
Audiences can watch Stutterer this coming Friday 27th at 12:55am.
